Motor Boating

Sailing is fun, but today I realized I'm a speed boating kinda girl at heart. I love the speed too much! A sailboat at top speed can only go 22 mph. Scott's stingray may not have been as pretty or as spacious as the 29 foot sailboat I was on earlier in the week, but I loved the rush.

This is probably the most epic picture ever, and the best part is it wasn't planned! I think that's why it makes me smile every time I look at it. The moment was captured perfectly. This was when Scott first opened up the throttle and there was a collective shout of joy.

Sunscreen is always very important.

We all went wake boarding today. It was my first time and after falling the first couple times without getting up, I managed to get up and legit wake board! I was quite proud of myself. :)

I've gotten to go out on some sort of boat three days in the past week

I know anyone who has ever taken pictures of wake boarding probably has a picture just like this, but I just couldn't help myself.

This is Hoofer Motor Boat to Shore

I know this is a little late, but I was dead tired last night and had to work until just about now today. BUT, yesterday was surprisingly wonderful. So yeah, The Hoofers Sailing Club is pretty much the coolest club ever (in the summer at least).

We went sailing with John, who we met on the terrace Friday, and four of his friends. Ian had a sailing class and so he didn't come out with us. The plan was for him to make his way out with some other people on another sailboat, but there wasn't much wind.

Ian and his crew ended up getting stuck out on the water, so around sundown a boat went and pulled them back to shore. We were told at sundown a motorboat comes around and pulls in anyone who was "stupid enough to get stuck out there." Luckily, our boat had a motor, although we didn't use it until we had to go back in.

This is Sarah, she's a sailing instructor, and met John through her boyfriend, Nick, and they're instructors together.

This is Rei, she is a grad student that just got a job at Princeton teaching Japanese. She met John through her roommate who is really good friends with John and has hung out with him on multiple occasions.

This is Nick, he is also a sailing instructor, and met John because they're both meterologist majors.

This is me. I met John at the Terrace. On Friday. I would probably not have been on the boat except for Emily. I felt like... I had no right to be there. Yet, they all were extremely welcoming.

I've decided sailors are very laid back people. You have to be in order to have the mentality, "Let's go out on the water. What, there's supposed to be 0 wind tonight and that is our mode of transportation? Who wants to grab the life jackets?" There's not even any mention of not going out. They chuckle and its as if they're saying: we might get stuck, and that will be hilarious.

I like them a lot.

Not only did we sail, we played cards and drank beer from a keg. A keg! On the sailboat! Am I the only one whose mind is blown by this awesomeness?

P.S. I asked what "coming in warm" (which is more often said as "coming in hot") meant, and it means coming in too fast! Good to know, right? Although there are a lot of other definitions for coming in hot. I really like number three.

You're Coming in Warm

What does the title of this post mean? I don't know; it's sailor jargon. I know he wasn't talking about the weather either because it was quite frigid for the middle of June. We all had goosebumps. All I know is "coming in warm" is a bad thing, because when the guy said it, he didn't sound too happy. How did I hear sailor jargon you might be asking? I went on a sailboat today! The Hoofers Sailing Club Kickoff was today, so we got a ride on a sailboat!

I was considering joining the sailing club, but it's pretty expensive and after the ride I'm not sure I'm much of a sailor. I mean, it was fun, don't get me wrong. But I don't think I'd want to do it three times a week, and I would have to in order to get my money out of it.

Laur and I worked on taking her facial expressions down a notch today. Although, I'm not sure that's a good thing. Part of the reason laur is so cool is because she's so uncensored.

Pretty right? But like Laur pointed out, sailboats are always photogenic. They're the boats all the other boats envy because they look so darn good.

This is my favorite of the day. The clouds cooperated so nicely.

I like how the waves up close are kind of blurry looking from the motion, but then the sailboat in the distance is sharp.

My favorite part of the boat ride wasn't even the boat ride. The guy sitting next to me got off the boat before me and offered his hand to help me onto the dock. :) It made my night.
