Welcome to Cribbage, Baby!

Laura, Bridget, and I went to Concerts On the Square tonight. Every Wednesday, starting tonight and going through August, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra plays songs while the good people of Madison come and listen, and relax. It was a surprisingly big ordeal. People had legit wine glasses, cheese plates, and even little tables with table cloths on the grass around the capitol.

We got there at five and it was difficult to find a place to set down our blanket, even though the concert didn't start until seven.

We ended up playing cribbage, which I've wanted to do for a really long time, and agreed we're goign to make Concert on the Square a weekly event.

Well You Don't Want to Burn Your Retinas

SO last night Alyssa, Emily, Claire and I were looking for something to do, and we happened to notice the posters around the room. Being the dorks we are, we decided to try and be the people in the posters. If you're confused, you'll soon know what I'm talking about. The posters we had in the room were Elvis, Mona Lisa, Marilyn Monroe, and Uma in Pulp Fiction. So here we go! This was our best!

ELVIS!

So yeah, little embarrased, but oh well! ANYways, as you may be able to see... my hair was just not very Mrs. Mia Wallace...
IMG_8648

So... we cut it.
IMG_8686

Claire did a fantastic job. I'm super happy with it. Although, I am considering getting a bob. What do y'all think?

Here are some outtakes from the whole photoshoot.

Gotta get some good lighting!
IMG_8535

We all know this went down
IMG_8579

Alyssa's face makeup for Mona... she looks very pasty. In a good way.

And then Alyssa pointed out that Em looked like she was straight out of Mad Men, so we had to get a couple pics of her like that.

emandstevens

The next one is of Joy and there's not a huge difference... but it is there if you look! I posted both the old one and the one I messed with. I really hope you like the photoshopped one better!

So this is the old one. Still lovely!
IMG_5930

And this is the new one! Just a little bit brighter, and I tried to make her eyes stand out a little bit more.

Chins!

So I read this short story in English 216 called "To Room Nineteen" And it was about this woman who completely detached herself from all relationships with other people and effectively stopped being. The author was trying to get across the point that "the self" doesn't exist in a single person, "the self" only exists in our relationships with others, and lies not within any one person, but between people. I really like this idea, and feel like sometimes I need to work on concentrating on my relationships with others. It's very easy to get wrapped up in yourself, but what's truly important are your relationships with other people. I love you guys! :)

Congrats on the engagement guys!!!

I mean, look what can happen otherwise...

Do You know the Venison Man?

He used to be at the farmer's market every saturday... but his booth/cart thing is gone. No where to be found. And now I have to settle for beef jerky instead of venison jerky. Let me tell you, it's not nearly as good.

Watched Harold and Maude tonight for the first time. It was Cassie's movie. Maude said if she could be any flower she'd be a sunflower: tall and simple. And I think I agree.
IMG_8333

Meg and Adam are in town! It was fun to catch up and hear all the Chip drama, just like always.
IMG_8366

Is this not the creepiest thing ever? There were three of these... figurines around the Machinery Row, which is a bike store. Why? Not quite sure. Just creeped out. Learned that you can't always eat a deep dish today. Sometimes they're a type of wheel on a bike.
IMG_8415

Interesting perspective, right? It might be kind of nice to have flowers as big as skyscrapers. I think I would like that. Although then would we have bees and butterflies as big as skyscrapers? Maybe that wouldn't be so nice. For some reason, the imagery of the butterfly is much more ominous to me. I can see them flapping their wings and knocking over buildings and such with the wind they create. Weird, right? Maybe it's because bees are harmful now, so a two-hundred foot bee... is that really any worse? But a harmless butterfly compared to a building-knocking-down butterfly? Heck yes that's scary. And really, all a bee could do is impale one person with its stinger and then it would be done. A butterfly could go around knocking down buildings and causing massive damage.

Another thought: if butterflies were so big, we'd have to change the name of the "butterfly effect". It wouldn't make any sense at all to call it the butterfly effect anymore.

So How Was That? What, The Car Ride?

Sorry I didn't update yesterday! I once again left my camera at Laur's place because of the threat of rain. It was pouring, and a very daunting idea to have to walk all the way back to 420 (which is about a twenty to thirty minute walk). So it wasn't really a threat, it was a reality. In the end Bridge and Laur gave us a ride back, what a relief. It still amazes me how quickly a trip can be in a car when I'm so used to doing it on foot.

I do believe these pictures aren't up to par... but I also believe they capture the night quite wonderfully. It wasn't a photogenic night... it just was. I recognize this doesn't make sense, and we're moving on.

This is Phil. Laura's roommate. I feel like this pic captures him very accurately. No worries though, he changed for Em. ;)
IMG_8315

There are too many wonders in this picture!
1. I decided to wear my cowboy boots out in honor of Country Fest. Hope you guys had oodle caboodles of fun!
2. What, you may be asking, is that box to the left of your feet? And why is it in the living room? My dear sir/madam! That is no box! That is a coffee table! Silly mistake; yes, you are excused.
3. It was super duper hot out again, and that fan was our only relief.
IMG_8322

Maybe not the classiest of photos, but is college really the time to be classy? I think not! Besides, we had to document our first trial of Spotted Cow. I approve. Much better than Keystone... although I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Keystone.

The Showdown

Betty: I'm going to kill you.
Laura Crazy

Maurice: Yeah, right.
IMG_7169

Betty: No, really. I'm going to kill you.
Laura Crazy

Maurice: What?! Why?!
Alyssa shocked

Betty: Because I WANT TO! Muahahahaaaa!
IMG_7703

Delilah: I think she's serious. You'd better run.
IMG_6947

Maurice: Bring it on! You'll never catch me. (Runs away from Betty and disappears into the distance.)
IMG_4592

Betty: Oh, I will. And I'm bringing backup. Let's go Patty.

Patty: Who, me?
IMG_6724

Betty: Yes! Of course you! Are you ready, Patty? We're not going to rest until we find Maurice! If we have to search the entire sky, we will!
IMG_6713

Betty: If we have to scale walls, we will!
IMG_6676

Betty: If we have to search every shower, we will!
IMG_6742

Betty: If we have to go undercover as professional hula-hoopers, we will!
IMG_4337

Patty: Do you really think this is necessary? I mean I know she...
IMG_6688

Betty: Don't speak of it! YES this is necessary! Now let's go.
IMG_4366

Patty: Ok, Betty.
IMG_6802

Betty: YES! Let's go! (The two friends head off the same way Maurice went, hoping to catch up to her.)
IMG_4488

Will Betty and Patty catch up to Maurice? Where is Maurice going? What did Maurice do? So many questions!!! TO BE CONTINUED...
